Twitter's 280-Character Limit: Yay or Nay?

Have you ever wished you could tweet more than 140 characters on a single Twitter post? Well, if you did, Twitter just granted your wish!

Twitter expands 280 character limit on tweets

Here's Twitter's official tweet expanding the character limit to 280 characters.

I'd say, thank you, Twitter! I guess I could use those extra characters.

However, some might say the challenge to make the message "short and sweet" is now gone. Some say it's like foregoing a feature that's unique to Twitter and now, it's no different from Facebook or Reddit.

Twitter's  Product Manager Aliza Rosen wrote on the social networking site's official blog:
"We are making this change after listening and observing a problem our global community was having (it wasn’t easy enough to Tweet!), studying data to understand how we could improve, trying it out, and listening to your feedback. We’ll continue listening and working to make Twitter easier for everyone while making sure we keep what you love."
Aliza also said that in an experiment that they made prior to making the decision to expand the character limit, people who had more room to Tweet received more engagement (Likes, Retweets, @mentions), got more followers, and spent more time on Twitter.

Twitter also received positive feedback from these people included in the experiment who said that the "higher character limit made them feel more satisfied with how they expressed themselves on Twitter, their ability to find good content, and Twitter overall."

How about you? What do you think of this new development? Yay or nay?
